William "Bill" E. Thye, 68, of Burlington, died at 9:36 am. Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at Great River Medical Center Emergency Room. Born October 2, 1940, in Burlington, he was the son of Emil and Frances Sophia Schachel Thye. On August 20, 1961, he married Sharon Kay Werner at Zion United Church of Christ. Mr. Thye was a 1958 graduate of Burlington High School. He worked at Modern Welding for 45 years, retiring as a sales estimator July 2, 2004. Mr. Thye was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. He enjoyed racing, hanging out at the shop with family and friends, restoring tractors and old cars, river boating, and being at their cabin on the river. He was a devoted family man and loved going to his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Thye of Burlington; one daughter, Darcy (Jon, Jr.) Hedges of Burlington; two sons, Darin (Kristen) Thye and Dusty (Vickie) Thye, both of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Ian, Dugan, Evan, Riley, Trey, Briar and Emma; and two sisters, Leah (Gerald) Mattox of West Burlington, and Lois (Don) Traman of Burlington. His parents and one niece preceded him in death. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 8th, in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p. m. at an informal visitation. The funeral service for Mr. Thye will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 9th, in Lunning Chapel, with the Revs. Marlea Gilbert and Dean Moberg officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Zion United Chuch of Christ or the donor's choice of charitable organiation.
