Frances Sophia Thye, 98, of Burlington, died at 7:59 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born Aug. 9, 1908, in Wapello, she was the daughter of Adolph and Katherine Horn Schachel. On Oct. 26, 1932, she married Emil Thye in Burlington. He died April 15, 1969. She was a graduate of Burlington High School and worked as a cook in food service for James Madison and Horace Mann Middle Schools for 7 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church, the Miriam Circle. She enjoyed embroidery, yard work and gardening. Survivors include two daughters, Leah Mattox, of West Burlington and Lois Traman of Burlington; one son, William Thye of Burlington; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter Schachel of Fort Madison; nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband, one granddaughter, two sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday in Lunning Chapel. Family will receive friends from 12 noon until the time of service on Wednesday. Funeral services from Mrs. Thye will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Jason Unzicker officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Oak Street Baptist Church Youth Ministry Scholarship Fund.
