Mrs. Joan L. Thrasher, 85, of Burlington, died at 2:45 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, at Great River Medical Center - Klein Center.
Born November 2, 1926 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Walter A. and Jesse M. Duncan Peterson. On June 5, 1944 she married Robert E. Thrasher in Fort Madison. Mrs. Thrasher was a 1944 graduate of Fort Madison High School. She worked at Sheaffer Pen Co. and Eklund's Dress Shop. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Ruth Circle. She was also a member of P.E.O. Chapter NH and Kings Daughters. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross during World War II and was a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts. She enjoyed golfing, needlework and cooking. Her hobby was her family and grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Robert Thrasher of Burlington; one daughter, Barbara (Gary) Hanlin of Woodstock, Illinois; one son, Scott (Kristine) Thrasher of Columbia, Missouri; four grandchildren, John Hanlin (fiancée, Jessica) and Sarah (Brett) Sarbaugh both of Woodstock, and Molly Thrasher and Robert "Bobby" Thrasher both of Kansas City, Missouri and one great grandchild, Logan Hanlin of Woodstock. Her parents preceded her in death. Friends may call after 8 a.m. Wednesday, March 14th, in Lunning Chapel. The funeral service for Mrs. Thrasher will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 14th, in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Michael Orthel will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials have been established for Great River Medical Center - Klein Center and Great River Hospice.
