Obituary

Trudy A. Slocum, 72, of Burlington, died Sunday, June 12, 2022, at OakView Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Born November 14, 1949, in Burlington, Iowa she was the daughter of Kenneth and Lily (Powell) Taulker. She married Steve Slocum on September 1, 1972, and together they celebrated almost 50 years of marriage.
Trudy was a graduate of Burlington High School and earned her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Western Illinois University. She was a Registered Nurse for many years until her retirement in 2016.
She is survived by her husband Steve Slocum of Burlington; her sister-in-law Diane (Ed) Timmerman of Burlington; one daughter Jennifer (Jake) Bailey of West Burlington and four grandchildren, Isabelle Slocum, Brielle Bailey, Bronson Bailey and Bellamy Bailey; and nieces and nephews.
Trudy suffered considerable hardship in her life, including the loss of her son and grandson, severe hearing impairment since birth, a brain tumor, and various other ailments. She never let these hardships rob her of her sparkle. She enjoyed Appaloosa horses, sports cars, going out to eat and John Wayne westerns. Above all else, she treasured her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Brenton Slocum, grandson Jameson Bailey, twin sister Judy Lind and brothers Jerry Taulker and David Taulker.
The visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18th at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. A graveside service will follow the visitation at Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Pastor JudyAnn Morse will officiate.
A memorial has been established for The American Society for Deaf Children.
