Obituary
Leonard Dale Shipley, 80, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born July 18, 1942, in Keokuk County, IA, he was the son of Joe "Bub" and Wilma Leathers Shipley.
Leonard was an avid businessman. He founded Shipley Construction in 1976. He owned and operated several different companies, for over 40 years. He was a mentor to many young men who worked for him. He received many awards throughout the years for his hard work and dedication to his business. Everyone who knew him, could say he had the golden touch.
Leonard was a hard working man and took great pride in his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. Some of his favorite past times were cooking and making a mess in the kitchen. He also enjoyed tending his vegetable garden, riding motorcycles, golfing, hunting on the farm, and spending time with his great-granddaughter, Peyton.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Barbara of Burlington; three sons, Barry (Barbara) Shipley, Lyle Rosson and Bryan (Gloria) Shipley of Burlington; step-son, Mark (Jenny) Jacobs of Bonita Springs, FL; three step-daughters, Kelly Stevenson of Ft. Madison, Chris (Dennis) Meller of Ft. Madison and Marley (James) Woodley of Manito, IL; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Loretta Mewes of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Kenny Shipley and Richard Shipley, sister Shirley Davis, and son, Bradley Shipley.
Less than 24 hours after Leonard's passing, his brother, Jerry (Linda) Shipley of New Sharon, also passed away.
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The memorial service for Mr. Shipley will be 11:00 AM Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.
