Mr. Robert William Pfau, 96, of Burlington, died at 8:04 a.m., Monday, November 11, 2019 at Wapello Specialty Care, Wapello, Iowa.
Born June 18, 1923 in Downers Grove, IL, he was the son of Jack and Emma Louise (Peters) Pfau. He married Clara Marian Christiansen on November 3, 1950 in Burlington. She died November 18, 2011.
Robert graduated from Clarksville High School, Clarksville, Missouri in 1942. He served as an engineer, attaining corporal rank in the United States Army during WW II, January 14, 1943-January 21, 1946. He was a member of the 1874 Engineer Aviation Battalion. His decorations included; Bronze Arrowhead, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and good conduct. Military occupational specialty and qualification in general carpentry and rifle marksmanship. He worked as a carpenter, and at Hy-Vee for 24 years before retiring in 1986. A few years later, worked for Dehner's Seed & Feed for 10 years.
He was of the Christian faith.
He enjoyed woodworking, cabinetry, and reading.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy A. Pfau of Burlington, Joanie I. (Kevin) Miller-Zimmerman of Ankeny, IA, and Linda L. (Chan) VanBuskirk of Burlington; two grandsons, Michael R. Miller of Bouton, IA and Kyle T. Miller; of Des Moines, IA; two great-grandsons, Ben Miller of Bouton, IA, and Jase Miller of Des Moines, IA; one step-great-grandson, Mason McAtee of Bouton, IA, and one brother, Jack R. Pfau of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 61 years, Clara; and three sisters, Lorraine Pfau, Lois Lucas, and "Babs" Gorrell; one niece; four nephews; one great-niece; and one great-nephew.
The graveside service for Mr. Pfau will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 14th at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Donna Beyer will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 13th at Lunning Chapel.
A memorial has been established for the Disabled Veterans of America.
