Geraline “Gerry” Joan (Rappenecker) McCartney, 93, of Burlington, Iowa passed away peacefully at 11:03 AM on September 1, 2020 in Columbus, Ohio after a short illness.
Born September 19, 1926 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Edward Charles and Lucy May Springsteen Rappenecker. On July 20, 1946 she married John Francis McCartney. He passed away February 20, 1998.
Geraline worked for the Winegard Company retiring in 1969. She spent her retirement years traveling, enjoying time with family and friends, being involved with her church, and helping others.
She attended Burlington High School. She was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ. She had taught Sunday school for 27 years. She cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include one son John Edward McCartney and his wife Khris Hall of New Fairfield, Connecticut; one daughter Jenny Lee McCartney of Columbus, Ohio; a grandson Jason McCartney and his wife Andrea of Coralville, Iowa; a granddaughter Karessa Kavanaugh and her husband Dave of San Francisco, California; a granddaughter Kyrene Konopolsky and her husband Adam of Hoboken, New Jersey; a step granddaughter Terra Gallop of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania; a step grandson Morgan Gallop of Irvine, California; a step granddaughter Elisse Takara of Honolulu, HI; three great granddaughters Ginger, Kaylee, and Leah; one step great grandson Asher; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers (William, Edward, Robert, Donald, and Phillip) and two sisters (Mary and Margaret).
There will be no visitation or reception. The family will greet guests beginning 2 hours prior to the funeral at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, Iowa. The funeral service for Geraline will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Brooke Anthony officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Masks and social distancing will be required due to Covid-19.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established with First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
