Betty Carol Mauer, 85, of Cedar Falls (formerly of Burlington, Iowa) passed away August 23, 2020 at New Aldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice.
Born Feb. 2, 1935 in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Elias Rudolph and Helen Lucille Freed. Betty graduated in 1953 from Burlington High School. She attended Southeast Community College. On Dec. 31, 1955 she married Dick Mauer in Burlington at Messiah Lutheran Church. Betty met Dick while both worked at the Palace Theater. Dick was an usher and Betty was a cashier. They resided in the same house on North Hill for over 59 years where they raised their 5 children. Dick passed away on March 9, 2015.
Betty worked at Palace Theater, Drake Hardware, National Research, Bonewitz (Henkel), King’s Daughters and Contract Services. Betty was a devoted wife for over 59 years. Betty was member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
Betty enjoyed baking (especially making pizzelle cookies with her friend Tracy), going on walks, antiquing with Dick and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include Kristine Mauer (Phoenix, AZ), Rick and Rene’ Mauer (Ft. Myers, FL), Diane and Bryan Maki (Richfield, MN), Gary and Kathy Mauer (Grundy Center) and Susan and Mike Corpman (Cedar Rapids), 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her husband (Dick) in 2015 and her parents.
The memorial funeral service for Betty will be 11am on Saturday August 29, 2020 at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Susanne Smith officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Masks and social distancing will be required. Burial will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A Celebration of Life will also be held next year for those who could not attend her funeral service.
A memorial has been established for Messiah Lutheran Church.
For the past 6 years Betty has been under the gentle care of Bickford Senior Living of Burlington (1 Year), New Aldaya Lifescapes (5 years) of Cedar Falls and Cedar Falls Hospice. The family is very grateful and thankful to the wonderful staff from all care that our Mother received. It was second to none.
