Billy R. Guernsey, 86, of Burlington, died early Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at home.
Born August 2, 1932, in Salem, IA, he was the son of George W. Guernsey and Myrtle Irene Cochenour. On May 26, 1951, he married Doris V. Palmer in Kirksville, MO.
Billy retired from the IAAP after forty-two years. He owned and operated River City Hobby Shop and Roederer's Tavern with his wife. Billy will be greatly missed by his family, as he could fix any and everything as well as mend their small hearts.
He graduated Granger High School in 1950 then continued his education at Kirksville Teachers College.
Survivors include his wife, Doris V. Guernsey of Burlington, one daughter, Patty (Randy) Trine of Burlington, one son, Roger Guernsey of Burlington; six grandchildren: Joe (Elizabeth) Robinson, Nick (Shilo) Guernsey, Tiphanie (Manuel) Del Toro, Dustin (Jeanna) Guernsey, Tate (Paige) Guernsey and Katherine (Jake) Guernsey; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne (Majorie) Guernsey of Purdin, MO, several nieces and nephews and his faithful companion, Lucky.
Besides his parents, Billy is preceded in death by one infant daughter, four brothers, and a daughter-in-law.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM with the family to receive friends Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Billy will be 12:00 PM Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Wayne Ryan officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Local 807 Union, 9313 Koestner Street following the service. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory following the service. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 1, 2019.
