Obituary
Tyler, TX formerly of Burlington - Maureen Emma Culp, formerly of Burlington, Iowa entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on March 9, 2021, at the age of 87, in Tyler, TX.
She was born in Burlington on January 11, 1934 and grew up in Mediapolis, Iowa, where she played Basketball and participated in the Drama Club. She married Wendall Culp on August 14, 1955 in Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2018.
"Windy and Sunshine" lived in Burlington where they were lifelong, active members of Asbury United Methodist Church and spent many happy times boating on the Mississippi River with their daughter and their friends and family. Maureen was a huge fan of the Burlington Blackhawks Basketball team, holding season tickets for many years. She also enjoyed attending Players Workshop performances each season. Her biggest pastime also became her career. She was an avid bowler and participated on a Ladies League every Monday night for years at Bowl Inn Madison. For 20 years, she was also the daytime Front Desk Manager there. In 1992, upon retirement, the Culps relocated to Pflugerville , TX where their first and only grandchild was born. Truly, the greatest joy in Maureen's life was being a Grandma to Jillian Paige. They were the best of buddies and were blessed with countless memories. Once Jillian went to college, Maureen and Wendall chose to return home to Burlington-to the home and the people they cherished.
Maureen was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, Arthur and Florence Mellinger, four brothers, Cecil, Russell, Wesley, and Donald, and a great niece Jacqueline Mellinger.
She is survived by her daughter, Christa Wilson(Jeff) of Mineola, TX, granddaughter, Jillian Gilbert(Jarrett) of Georgetown, TX, sisters-in-law Sharon Mellinger, Jackie Mellinger, Letha Mellinger, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends in both Iowa and Texas.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler, TX. No service is planned. There will be an internment of hers and Wendall's ashes at a later date in Burlington, at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
