Ben Hildebrand, 70, died Saturday, December 10, 2016 at his home in Clive. Services will be 11 am, Friday, December 16, 2016 at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines.
Ben was born July 9, 1946 in St. Louis, MO. He graduated Granite City High School in 1963. He attended two years of college before entering the US Navy from 1965-1968. Ben then went on to work in the St. Louis area after his military service. Ben moved to the state of Iowa in 2005 and worked for Wells Fargo in Des Moines until his retirement.
Ben was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan. He was passionate about family, especially his grandchildren. His hobbies included cooking for his family, playing games and cards, and enjoying making people laugh. Ben was also a member of Lutheran Church of Hope where he enjoyed working and participating in other church activities.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Hildebrand; daughters: Dawn (Tim) Tiller of Phoenix, AZ, Lisa (Justin) Sabin of Phoenix, AZ, Gennie Garcia (Alex) of Chicago, IL; step daughters: Jennifer Jamison of Grimes, Sarah (Matt) Hawkins of Waukee; 13 1/2 grandchildren; siblings: Thomas Hildebrand of St. Louis, MO, Michael (Karen) Hildebrand of St. Louis, MO, Rose (Jeff) Stock of Atlanta, GA, Carol (Tom) Wassum of Baltimore, MD; brother and sister in laws: Tim McCraney, Pete (Billie) Bevis of Des Moines, Gale (Ralph) Johnson of New London, Robb (Kathy) Bevis of Prior Lake, MN. Ben was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Davis; sister, Elizabeth McCraney and his dog, Barkley.
