Marlene G. Butts, 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, August 27, 2018 at the Great River Klein Center, West Burlington, Iowa.
Born June 17, 1936 in Hardin Township, Iowa she was the daughter of Sydney and Frances (Pearson) Larson. She married Paul Albert Butts on February 2, 1957. He died October 30, 2015.
Marlene was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Church of Christ. The Lord was first and foremost in her life and family was everything to her. She was a very generous person and had unconditional love for her family. She was very hospitable and made sure her family and friends were always fed and taken care of. She was the moral compass of her family. She taught her children the importance of prayer and its use in everyday life.
She was an avid reader and writer. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed dancing and word puzzles. She was an honest, strong willed and courageous woman.
Survivors include her four children; Paul Anthony (Jacqueline) Butts, Christine (Tom) Brakeville, Cindy (Phillip) Young and Cheryl (Kevin) Reidy; grandchildren, Crystal (Chad) Gilbert, Allison (Justin) Ellison, Sondra Brakeville, Scott (Amber) Brakeville, Jessica (Jared) Ford, Samantha Budzyn, Eric Reidy, Julia (Jacob) Tinker and Abby (Mark Glaha) Young; great grandchildren, Nora, Lillian, Madelyn, Leonidas, Aksel, Braxton, Bailey, Baylor, Bowen, Amelia and Lyla; two sisters, Francene Quick of Burlington and Mary Cory of Palatka, Florida; one brother Spencer Larson of Iowa City; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Eugene Larson and one great grandson Bradley Allen.
A memorial has been established for First United Church of Christ.
