Mr. Howard C. Gulick, 84, of Burlington died at 10:05 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013 at his home.
Born July 23, 1928 in Burlington, he was the son of Milo and Snoda Bence Gulick. On March 18, 1953 he married Mary Poerschmann in Fort Madison. They were married for over 60 years.
Mr. Gulick was a Navy veteran of World War II and Korea. Mr. Gulick started from the ground up working for the City of Burlington in 1953. He worked in the Sanitation Department and retired as superintendent after over 40 years of service.
Mr. Gulick enjoyed cars, spending time with his family, scenic driving, traveling and camping.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Gulick of Burlington; three daughters, Julia Gulick of Tampa, Florida, Holly Gulick of Burlington and April Gulick of Crystal Lake, Illinois; five sons, Daniel (Marschinda) Gulick of Burlington, David (Becky) Gulick of Burlington, William (Pam) Gulick of Danville, Craig (Heather) Nuss of Burlington and Mike (Angela) Nuss of Burlington; 21 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; four brothers, Don (Joan) Gulick of Burlington, Dan (Gladys) Gulick of Kirkwood, Illinois, Richard Wayne Coursey of Denmark and Tom Coursey of Burlington; and two sisters, Marsha (Jess) Avery of Kirkwood, Illinois and Gloria "Toodles" Barr of Macomb, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Mary Cain; two sisters, Joanne Presson and Eva Faible; and three brothers, June Arnold, Jack Arnold and Delbert Arnold.
The visitation for Mr. Gulick will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11th in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites at 3:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
According to Mr. Gulick's wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel and Burlington Wilbert Crematory.
