Chris Allen Courtney, 52, of Chicago, IL and Flower Mound, TX, died at 2:15 AM Wednesday, April 10, 2019, as the result of a hit and run accident near Sacramento, CA.
He was born February 17, 1967, in Burlington, IA, to Jerry and Patricia Murphy Courtney. He was a 1985 graduate of Burlington High School and a 1990 graduate of the University of Iowa with a double major in finance and economics. While at the university, he became a college intern with Northwestern Mutual and was the number one college agent his Senior year. He moved to Chicago to pursue what became a life-calling for him. He took what he learned at home, school and through sports, and applied it to his business life to become highly successful.
Throughout Chris' prestigious career with Northwestern Mutual he was able to hit several career milestones. Some of those milestones include: Top 10 Intern, company leader in Bronze, Silver and gold, 15 best years ever in total premium from 1991 to 2016 (always growing throughout his career), Forum every year from 1998-2018, writing over 100 life policies every year of his career and exceeding 200 life policies 9 times, Master Achievement in 2007 and 2009, top 20 in the company in 2006, 2014 and 2016, and his career production ended with $18,985,160 of premium. He was number 17 in career production in company history and worked tirelessly to impact nearly 5,300 lives during his career.
Chris' love for football and baseball began in elementary school and he excelled at both in high school. He was passionate about physical fitness, Iowa Hawkeyes, Cardinals and Packers. He also was not shy about discussing politics.
Survivors include his parents, Jerry and Pat of Burlington; one brother, Jay (Stephanie) Courtney of Dallas, TX; two nephews, Jack and Jared Courtney; aunts, uncles, and many friends and colleagues.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM, Saturday at Harmony Bible Church, Burlington Campus, located at 550 Division St.
The memorial service for Chris will be 3:00 PM Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Harmony Bible Church, Burlington Campus with Reverend Shane A. McCampbell officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Burlington Golf Club following the inurnment.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Purple and Gray Foundation or a charity of your choice.
