Billy Keith Clements, 85, of Burlington, passed away at 12:01 AM Friday, July 12, 2019, at his home in Burlington.
Born January 3, 1934, in Reger, MO, he was the son of James Earl and Helen Magdaline Clem Clements. On December 26, 1953, he married C. Donna Spearman in Burlington. Donna passed away on October 24, 2017.
Billy worked for 32 years for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant as an Equipment Manager, retiring in 1990.
He was a 1952 graduate of Burlington High School.
Billy was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War from 1954 until 1956. He then served in the Army Reserves from 1956 until 1962.
He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. He was also a member for 50 years with the Boy Scout Troop #3, holding the positions of Cubmaster, Asst. Cubmaster, Pack Committee, Scoutmaster, Asst. Scoutmaster, Troop Committeeman, Troop Committee Chairman, Merit Badge Counselor, Council Committee Advancement, District Committee Advancement and District committee Camping. He also was with the Order of the Arrow National Camping Society Silver Tomahawk Lodge 80, Tap Out 1969, Lay Advisor 1987 thru 1989, Medicine Man from 1989 to the present and the Vigil Honor in 1987. His Indian Name was, NENACHGEVCHID WITACHPVINGEET and an interperater as Confident Man. He received many awards over those 50 years of Scouting, including, Cubmaster Key in 1968, Cub Committee Key in 1965, Scoutmaster Key in 1971, Scout Committee Key in 1969, Award of Merit in 1972, St. George Award in 1978, Silver Beaver Award in 1979, Asst. Camp Ranger 1991, Bachelor of Commissioner Science in 2002, Life Saving Commissioner in 2002, District Committee Key in 2004, plus attending summer camp with the troop for 40+ years. Old Fighting Bull loved his kids and grandchildren and he was always there for them. He was also very proud of his ownership of the Greenbay Packers.
Survivors include four sons, Bill (Barb) Clements of Greenwood, IN, Tom (Dominique Pacheco) Clements, Patrick Clements and Christopher (Brenda) Clements all of Burlington, two daughters, Candace Saben and Mary (Kevin) Strausbaugh both of Burlington; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one niece and several nephews.
Besides his wife, Billy was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from noon until 5:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 3:00 PM Rosary Service until 5:00 PM Sunday, July 14, 2019, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Billy will be 2:00 PM Monday, July 15, 2019, at Divine Mercy Parish-SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Rev. Father Daniel R. Dorau as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the Community Room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.
Memorials have been established for Boy Scout Troop #3.
