Obituary
Tom Stevens, 80, of Burlington, died at 2:05 PM Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born July 1, 1936, in Burlington, he was the son of Owen Andrew and Helen Madelyn Smith Stevens. On February 6, 1965, he married Connee Alexander in Burlington.
Tom was the store manager for Hy-Vee Food Stores for 31 years and retired in 1991.
He graduated from Burlington Catholic High School in 1954. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church, president of the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry and he also volunteered at Great River Medical Center. Tom was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, loved attending auctions, traveling to Las Vegas, and working on his yard; but most of all he cherished his time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Connee Stevens of Burlington; two sons, Bill "Raymond" (Pat) Stevens of Rosemount, MN and Mark "Robert" (Rhonda) Stevens of Burlington; two daughters, Lisa Bleim and Aimee (Jim) Bauer both of Burlington; five grandchildren, Tyler Stevens, Ariel Stevens, Darian Stevens, Nicole Dudycha, and Addison Bleim; one brother, Joe (Barb) Stevens of Burlington; three sisters, Margaret (DeWayne) Poggemiller of Burlington, Mary (Chuck) Kelly of Burlington, and Pat (Doug) Reed of North Liberty; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Owen and Stanley; and one sister, Alice.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Tom will be 10:00 AM Monday, May 1, 2017, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Father Bill Roush as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory following the service. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. A time of food and fellowship will be held in St. John's Cafeteria following service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, SS. John & Paul Catholic Church and Notre Dame Schools.
