Rev. Albert Lee Sparks, 76, of Burlington, died at 1:30 PM Saturday, December 8, 2018, at the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas TX.
Born February 25, 1942, in Wewoka, OK, he was the son of Henry Sparks and Jennie Mae House Stevenson. On November 22, 1971, he married Sara Anne Davis in Rock Island, IL. She died on May 30, 2015 in Burlington.
Albert was a Pastor for over 40 years; he last served as pastor at Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Burlington. He also worked as a foreman at JI Case in Burlington for 23 years.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 until 1968.
Albert loved his Burlington community, especially the youth. Before moving to Dallas, he often talked about buying the Salter School building and turning it into a youth center. He was always reaching out to the young children of the community by encouraging them to attend church. He also volunteered his time on the Burlington School board.
Survivors include four daughters, Alexandria Sparks of Oswego, IL, Christina (Shawn) Hill of Dallas, Texas, Karla Sparks (Darrol Hunter) of Richmond, California and Katrina Sparks of Richmond, California; six grandchildren, Zoe Thomas, La'Teshia Hunter, Jerreal Hunter, Terreal Hunter, Irrioin Hunter, Ebonie Hunter (Dontae) Cooper; 12 great grandchildren, Laya Terreal Hunter, Xoran Hunter, Dorian Cooper, Doree Cooper, Dior Cooper, Dontae Cooper, Damontae Cooper, Knowledge Hunter, Justice Hunter, Mark Hunter, Miracle Hunter and Lyric Hunter.
Besides his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Albert Sparks Jr.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
The funeral service for Reverend Sparks will be 2:00 PM Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with Supt. Mr. Fred Starling officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Trinity' s Fellowship Hall following the burial.
