Joseph Michael Mahoney, 81, of Burlington, died at 11:29pm Saturday, July 14, 2018, in the Memory Care Unit of Edencrest at Green Meadows in Johnston, IA.
Born November 25, 1936, in Darby, PA, he was the son of Joseph Michael and Dorothy Kelter Mahoney. On January 9, 1965, he married Marlene Bertman in Broomall, PA. She died on February 4, 2012.
He worked for General Electric in customer service for 40 years, retiring in 1997. He was an avid sports fan who especially loved the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles.
Survivors include his two sons, Joseph Michael (Kristen) Mahoney III of Windsor Heights, IA, Jack (Kei) Mahoney of Misawa, Japan; and three grandchildren, Shannon Mahoney, Jenna Mahoney, and Quinn Mahoney.
Besides his wife Marlene, he was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters.
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 2:00pm Friday, July 20, 2018 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Mahoney will be 2:00 PM Friday, July 20, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Raccoon Valley Little League Scholarship Fund. This money will be used to pay for fees and equipment for kids who can't afford it to play at RVLL in Des Moines.
