Robert J. Butts, 77, of Burlington, died at 5:30 AM Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at his home.
Born Monday, January 26, 1931, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Albert Louis and Edna Lou Russell Butts. On March 2, 1957, he married Christa H. Freisleben in Burlington.
Bob was a union painter for many years. He retired in 1991.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years in Berlin after WWII.
He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Eagles Club, Moose Lodge, VFW 10102, and the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed the river, boating, fishing, and hanging out with his friends. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Christa; two daughters, Deborah (James) Causey of Hermann, MO, and Jennie (Thomas) Shacklett of Donnellson, IA; five grandchildren, Meri, Sarah, Robert, Shaun, and Tiffany; six great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Kaitlynn, Oceanna, Joshua, Megan, and Peyton; one twin brother, Paul Butts of Burlington; one sister, Marge Bash of West Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, four brothers, and one son, John Robert Butts.
Cremation has been accorded. There will be no visitation. The Memorial Service for Mr. Butts will be 11:00 AM Saturday, August 23, 2008, at the First United Church of Christ with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established for First United Church of Christ.
