Marilyn M. Malcom, 90, of Burlington, died peacefully with family by her side at 1:23 p.m., Monday, December 9, 2019 at Great River Medical Center.
Born on May 16, 1929 in West Point, IA, she was the daughter of E.M. and Sarah J. (Enslow) Danover. She married Donald A. Malcom August 9, 1950 in Wapello, IA. He died November 17, 2009.
Marilyn graduated in 1946 from Denmark High School and continued meeting her classmates for monthly luncheons until her death. In 1950 she graduated with her Registered Nursing degree from Burlington Hospital. She worked as an office nurse for Dr. Guiang and Dr. Paragas for 35 years.
She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church and served as their Parish Nurse.
She loved her flowers, traveling, collecting cards sent to her, and playing cards. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her lifelong friends. Marilyn volunteered at several organizations. She belonged to various nursing organizations and Jane A. Delano.
Survivors include two children, Joyce (Jerry) Heckenberg of Burlington and Mark (Roberta Cores-Malcom) Malcom of Syracuse, UT; four grandchildren, Ryan Underwood, Timothy Heckenberg, Bradlee Malcom, and Mark D. Malcom; great-granddaughter, Olivia Underwood, and a great-grandson expected in March to Bradlee and Megan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, and one aunt, Vergie.
The funeral service for Mrs. Malcom will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14th at Lunning Chapel. Rev. Deb Kinney will officiate. Private inurnment will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, where family will receive friends.
Cremation will be accorded following the funeral service.
Memorials have been established for the Jane A. Delano R.N. Scholarship, First Presbyterian Church, and Hope Haven.
