Bonnie B. Landes, 91, of Burlington, died at 10:15 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Klein Center.
Born May 18, 1930 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Ed and Opal B. (Reaugh) Darrah. She married Alva “Al” Leland Landes on May 2, 1969. He died June 29, 2009.
Bonnie was a member of First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ. In the ninth grade she quit school to take care of her ailing mother. She sold Avon and worked as a crossing guard at Washington School for over 35 years. She took great joy in maintaining her yard and had a passion for Avon products. She could often be found hanging out at Jerry’s Main Lunch or delivering Avon orders on her moped.
Bonnie, along with her husband Al were active members of the Burlington Moose Lodge before his passing in 2009. Bonnie loved spending time on her porch, gardening and feeding the squirrels and birds. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and watching baseball and basketball. She spent a lot of time during her retired years with the “apple of her eye” her great granddaughter Nicole, who would help her deliver Avon orders, play solitaire, go to Jerry’s Main Lunch and read together.
Survivors include two children, Gail Nemeth of West Burlington and Richard Danielson of Florence, Arizona; grandchildren, Lynn Allen-Cockrell (Sean) of Denver, North Carolina and Stephanie Nemeth-Fritz of Coalgate, Oklahoma; six great-grandchildren, Nicole Nichols, Rileigh Allen, and Justin Allen Jr. all of Denver, North Carolina, Jonathon Holstein and Kayleigh Holstein both of Burlington and Jennika Fritz of Coalgate, Oklahoma and two siblings, Ed Darrah and Ron Smith, both of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, Harry Darrah and sister Anna Marie Gingrich.
According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel. The family will be having a private inurnment and celebration of life at a later date.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers and staff at the Klein Center for their exceptional compassion and care to Bonnie over the last several years.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
