Obituary
Juanita “Jo” Lloyd, formerly of West Burlington, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 14, 2021 in Concord, CA. Born in Keota, OK on July 23, 1925 to John Robert and Clara Belle (Davis) Turney, she was the fourth of ten children. She graduated high school in 1943 in Stigler, OK, then moved to Oklahoma City where she contributed to the war effort by holding a “Rosie the Riveter” position at Douglas Aircraft. After the war, she attended the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, OK, then worked for Southwestern Bell in Oklahoma City.
In 1946, she moved to Burlington, IA, and married Harry E. Perdue on June 9, 1946. Their union lasted 15 years, and they had one son, Howard. She worked at the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant for nearly 40 years, from 1951 until 1990, when she retired. On May 31, 1968, she married Marvin M. Lloyd. In 2013, she and Marvin moved to California, where he passed away five years later, shortly after their 50th wedding anniversary. They were truly soul mates.
She was fun-loving, loved to laugh and tell funny stories, and enjoyed family get-togethers. She enjoyed nice clothes and her jewelry collection, loved crocheting and sewing, going to antique stores and auctions, organizing all her photos into photo albums, celebrating Christmas, her favorite holiday, with family, and mall-walking after she retired. Family was very important to her, and whenever she took a vacation, it was to visit family in Oklahoma and California. She was devoted to taking care of, and helping, her loved ones and extended family when she could.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, Lavona Walker of Berwyn, IL (formerly of West Burlington), Jewell Dean Williamson and Joyce Ann Morgan of Tulsa, OK, Roma Lee Murphy of Nepturne, NJ (formerly of West Burlington); and Donna Jo Allen of Jinx, OK, and two brothers, Norman Turney, who died in infancy, and Billy Turney of Midwest City, OK. Survivors include her son, Howard, from Pacheco, CA, two brothers, Robert F. Turney from Lakewood, WA and Johnathan Turney from Stigler, OK, and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mrs. Lloyd will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 22nd at Lunning Chapel. Rev. Dean Graber will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name with the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
