Obituary
Kay Kent, 87, of Burlington, reunited with Christ at 4:20 a.m on March 6, 2019 at The Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Kay was born on September 18, 1931 in Killanure, Bunclody, Co. Wexford, Ireland to Martin and Mary Doyle. Kay married the love of her life, Dr. Robert Kent, on June 5, 1956, in Dublin, Ireland and soon immigrated to the United States. Kay and Bob moved to Fort Madison in 1964 where they raised their family. They later settled in Burlington where Kay lost her beloved Bob on May 6, 2006 after 50 years of marriage.
Being active with the church, school, and community was a passion of Kay's. She was Den Mother for her two sons as a part of the Boy Scouts, a member of PTA where she headed many committees, and a Medical Auxiliary officer. Through her Welcome Wagon business, Kay helped many newcomers and engaged in the area. Kay was busy in her senior years with King’s Daughters, Legion of Mary, Eucharistic Ministry, Grief Ministry, Altar & Rosary Society and Rotary Club. She was a member of her Canasta club since 1965. Kay and Bob shared their passion for travel with their children and grandchildren, and were long time members of the Holiday Rambler Club.
Kay was an active member of the Divine Mercy Parish. She loved sports whether it was watching her grandchildren or catching her favorite teams on television. Kay was a magnificent cook and she never let a soul go hungry. The birds at the bird feeder will miss her.
Survivors include her five children, David (Diana) Kent of Davenport; Anne (Tim) Lynch of Bedford, IN; Jacqueline Wahle of Wildwood, MO; Marie Kent of Lake St. Louis, MO; and Michael Kent (special friend Stephanie Alldredge) of Burlington; eight grandchildren, Allison Corro, Colin (Lyndley) Kent, Abby (Jim) Cichon, Katie Lynch, Kristan Lynch, Kim Lynch, Matthew Wahle, Kevin Wahle; three great grandchildren, Santiago Corro, Dahlia Corro, Teagan Cichon; sisters Betty (Locky) Byrne of Australia, Mary Fiedling of Ireland; brother Andy Doyle of Ireland; and numerous nieces and nephews abroad.
Besides her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Hughie and Gary, one sister, Peggy and her husband John Nugent, and American sister, Margaret Schierbrock.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 4:00 PM Christian Wake Service/Rosary Service Friday, March 8, 2019, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Kay will be 1:00 PM Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Entombment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the Fellowship Hall at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church following the entombment.
A memorial has been established at The Great River Hospice House and Hope Haven Area Development Center.
