Warren Dwight Johnson Jr., 84, of Burlington, died at 3:45 PM Thursday, January 20, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born August 10, 1937, in Burlington, he was the son of Warren Oscar and Rainey Isabel Stevenson Johnson. On December 8, 1955, he married Sharon Lee Dickson. She died on December 29, 2011 after 56 years of marriage.
He began work for the Murray Iron Works and continued working for the company throughout the many ownership changes until his retirement from Siemens.
Warren was a member of the First Christian Church, Empty Nesters Club and an Elder Emeritus for the church. He was also involved with the Historical Society in Burlington and a member of Class of '55, meeting once a month for lunch. Warren was an avid genealogist, loved jazz and attending the BIX Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival in Davenport. He enjoyed Snoopy and Charlie Brown, was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa State Cyclones, and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. His family knew him affectionately as "Pop-o".
Survivors include his son, Joel (Lori) Johnson of Burlington; daughter, Kathy L (Robert) Miller of East Peoria, IL; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Brandie) Miller, Katie (David) Jacob, Sara (Brad) Hulet, Rebekah (Wesley) Grimm, Kristopher (Alyssa) Orton, Jessica Johnson, and Tyler Johnson; 13 great-grandchildren, Maci Hulet, Skylee McFall, William Jacob, Grace McFall, Lynlee Grimm, Kara Jacob, Owen Jacob, Benson McFall, Reese Miller, Wyatt Orton, Raine Grimm, Sawyer Orton, and Rowan Miller; and two brothers, Wayne Johnson and Wally (Becky) Johnson.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Wes and Wendy Johnson.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, January 28, 2022, where the family will receive friends at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Due to rising concerns with Covid-19, the family kindly asks those who plan to attend the services to please wear a mask or face covering.
The funeral service for Mr. Johnson will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 29, 2022, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with Reverend David J. Yonker and Reverend Brooke Anthony officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the Fellowship Hall at First Christian Church following the service. Burial will follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery. The funeral service will be live streamed on the church website at https://burlingtondoc.org/.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
