Larry Richard Johannsen, 81, of Burlington died Thursday, November 26, 2020 at the Great River Medical Center ER in West Burlington.
Born January 26, 1939 in Burlington, Iowa he was the son of Carl Cyrus & Margaret Cecil (Anderson) Johannsen. He married Nancy Sue Schilling on May 20, 1973 in Burlington.
Larry graduate from BHS in 1957, Burlington Jr. College 1959-1960 and went to Luther College for 2 years. While in high school he enjoyed playing football and basketball.
Larry was a Navy veteran serving from 1962-1966 with a Rank E-4 at Nas Oceana Virginia Beach, VA.
He worked at IRC, Churchill Truck Lines for 18 ½ years as dock supervisor and dispatcher. He retired from the U.S. Postal service as a distribution clerk in 2003.
Larry was a life member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and as an usher.
He was a member of the Take Away Hunger and Supper Club the Merry Munchers., He loved to play cards, travel and car shopping. Larry an avid Green Bay Packer fan “Go Packers”. Very active in the Boy Scouts when Jason was going through the ranks. He enjoyed going to his grandson’s sporting events.
Survivors include his wife Nancy S. Johannsen of Burlington; son Jason Carl (Deanna) Johannsen of Burlington; grandson Case Carl Johannsen; sisters, Joyce Johannsen of Manchester, MO and Marcia Johannsen of Aurora, CO. and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call Thursday December 3rd noon-8:00 p.m.at Lunning Chapel. Family will not be present. Due to Covid-19 the family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
According to his wishes, cremation will be accorded following the visitation and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
A memorial has been established for Messiah Lutheran Church and Carl Johannsen Scholarship Fund.
