Obituary
MARY ANN GRINDE Cedar Rapids Mary Ann Grinde, 93, passed away at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha on March 10, 2022. She previously lived at Keystone Cedars in Cedar Rapids, where her family visited with her on almost a daily basis since she moved there from Burlington in 2018. Born Sept. 3, 1928, in Estherville, Iowa, she was the daughter of Joseph and Ruth Kidder Hoye. She attended the Estherville schools and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1950. On June 25, 1950, she married Douglas Grinde and they were married for 50 years, until his death on Oct. 28, 2000. From their marriage they had three children, Carol (Lagneaux), Cathy (Vickroy) and David Grinde. Mary Ann was also the grandmother to five and great-grandmother of four. She loved her time with her family as did they with her. She especially enjoyed family time at her cottage on Spirit Lake. Her favorite phrase was, "The best place to be is together." While raising her family, she was also a very active member of the First United Methodist Church in Burlington and served on many church committees. She was a member of King's Daughters and Sons and a 50 year member of PEO. She also volunteered at the Burlington hospital, the Art Center of Burlington, Hetta Gilbert, the United Way and the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra. Aside from her volunteer efforts, she loved playing bridge and tending to her garden. She was preceded in death by many people, since she lived to be 93, but two sons-in-law, Jim Lagneaux and Mike Vickroy passed on too early. Those left behind include Carol Lagneaux, Cathy Vickroy, David Grinde (forever daughter-in-law, Fae Hoover), Ryan and Samantha Lagneaux and their children, Henry and George, Aaron and Ashly Lagneaux and their children, Smith and Brooks, Lindsay and Chris Schiedler, Ian Hoover-Grinde and Emma Hoover-Grinde. A visitation will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, March 28, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, at the First United Methodist Church in Burlington, with burial to follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery immediately thereafter. Pastor Melanie Greengo shall conduct the celebrations. A luncheon will follow at the Loft of the Church. The family would like to thank the staff of Oldorf Hospice House and Keystone Cedars for taking care of and providing support and love to Mary Ann in her final days and years. In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be directed to the Oldorf Hospice House located in Hiawatha, Iowa, a truly wonderful and caring place. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.cedarmemorial.com under obituaries.
