Obituary
Elder O.C. Wimley Jr, the son of O.C. Wimley Sr. and Eva Mae (nee Jackson) Wimley, was born October 10, 1944 in Kansas City, KS. Elder Wimley answered the call of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on June 10, 2021.
O.C. was educated in the Kansas City, KS school District, graduating from Sumner High School in 1962. He served his Country during the Vietnam War in the Army from July 1964, and honorably discharged in 1967. Upon his discharge from the Army, he began working for General Motors in Kansas City, KS, which he referred to as “Generous Motors”. Working at General Motors only deepened his love of cars. His cars sparkled from the inside to the outside, with the wheels shined and the wide white wall tires.
O.C. was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and received the Holy Ghost at an early age under the Pastoral leadership of Lula I. Hornbeak. In 1981 he answered the call of the Lord to become a Pastor of a church in Dubuque, IA. In 1983, he relocated to Des Moines, IA under the Pastoral Leadership of the late Bishop Jeremiah Reed. He again answered the call of the Lord, and relocated to Burlington, IA to Pastor a newly established church with 3 members, located at 908 Maple St. Under his leadership the membership outgrew the storefront church, in 1993 the church moved to a larger edifice at 515 Harrison St. Burlington, IA. Many lives were changed and souls saved. He worked tirelessly developing the church, devoting his time, energy, money, prayer and fasting, visiting the sick, visiting those incarcerated and BBQ skills to build the church.
O.C. married Beatrice Meritt, August 16, 1969 in Kansas City, KS. From this union four children were born: Raymond, Elaine, Sharice and Lisa. Throughout the years he was a proud and involved father to his family, taking them on road trips to teach them to drive, giving them negotiating skills to move upward in their careers, teaching them about the mechanical functions of a car, even the girls, and most of all instilling in them a STRONG foundation of faith in Jesus Christ.
O.C. was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, Brother Raymond Wimley, Sister Patricia Ann Petty, Son-in-law, Sean Edwards, Nephew Curtis W. Wimley.
He leaves many other family members, church family and friends to cherish their rich memories of him: including his wife Beatrice, children Raymond (Regina) Wimley, Elaine (Terrill) Walker; Sharice Edwards, Lisa (Derrick) Ryce, Sister: Geraldine (Donald) Moore. 13 Grandchildren: Derryan, Kanyia, Raymond Jr., Seaniece, Vonell, Elise, Dontrell, Xavier, Trenton, Derrick Jr., Donovan, Mya, Dallas; and 5 Great-grandchildren and a niece and host of nephews.
