James "Jim" Cloke, 83, of Burlington died Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born August 16, 1936 in Wapello County, Iowa he was the son of Lester Leonard and Mary Elizabeth (Cubbage) Cloke. He met Leilani Margaret Samuelson in the town square of Fairfield, Iowa and they were married on September 10, 1961 in Fairfield.
He served in the Air Force in England, Italy and Germany. Jim worked for Iowa Malleable in Fairfield from 1962-1979 in addition to farming his 40 acres in Birmingham, Iowa. He retired after 15 years from the City of Burlington.
He was of the Christian faith.
Jim was a hard worker. He enjoyed drinking coffee at Hy-Vee and visiting with people. He was a tomato grower and enjoyed gardening. In his younger years he helped his father on the farm and had two horses Rowdy and Buke. He, along with the two horses operated a one bottom plow.
Survivors include his wife Leilani Margaret Cloke of Burlington; two sons, David (Christy) Cloke of Quincy, Illinois and Leonard (Tracy) Cloke of Burlington; three grandchildren, Hilary (James) Moeller of Burlington, Brittany Cloke of Shawnee, Kansas and Austin Cloke of Lafayette, Colorado; four brothers, George Cloke of Brewton, Alabama, Ruben Cloke of Burlington, William Cloke of Burlington and Raymond Cloke of Burlington; four sisters, Irma Patterson of Bethany, Oklahoma, Rose Saben of Burlington, Helen Walker of Mission, Texas and Margaret Nelson of Gardendale, Alabama and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Robert and one sister Mary Evelyn.
The funeral service for Mr. Cloke will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 20th at Lunning Chapel. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Pastor Clay Baker will officiate. Interment will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19th at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.
A memorial has been established for the Alzheimer's Association.
