David Wayne Ballinger, 67, of Burlington, died at 5:20 PM Friday, November 30, 2018, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born September 19, 1951, in Burlington, he was the son of Len Pearl and Martha Mae Carpenter Ballinger. On October 14, 1972, he married Jean Elizabeth Sherwood in St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
David worked as an assembly worker at G.E. from 1973 until his retirement in 2007.
He graduated from Burlington High School.
David enjoyed working on old cars and was mechanically gifted. He really enjoyed rebuilding a '52 Willys with his friend, Bill Conn. He also enjoyed all things antique, especially Winchargers, and would show them at Midwest Old Threshers. David would go to flea markets, auctions and swap meets. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed playing Canasta with his family, eating peanut butter cookies, Hershey Hugs and anything with rhubarb.
Survivors include his wife, Jean of Burlington; two daughters, Anne (Paul) Wilson of Iowa City and Susan (Alan) Reinier of Cedar Rapids; son, Steven (Bonnie) Ballinger of El Paso, TX; seven grandchildren: Elizabeth, Kaitlyn "Kade", Caecilia, Katherine, Isaac, Annalise and Andrew; sister, Carolyn (Reverend David) Stout; brother, Mark (Dana) Ballinger; three sisters-in-law, Sharon Ballinger, Shirley Ballinger and Linda (Dana) Pogemiller; brother-in-law, Bill (Lana) Sherwood; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Carl and Les Ballinger.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Ballinger will be 10:00 AM Thursday, December 6, 2018, at Divine Mercy Parish-SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating. Family will be receiving friends again for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. Mary’s Parish Center following the burial.
