Ruth Ann Eastland, 78, of Wapello passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the Morning Sun Community Building from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow. Memorials may be directed to Southeast Iowa Hospice in memory of Ruth. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservices.com. Ruth Ann Holst was born on April 8, 1944 in Burlington, Iowa the daughter of John and Gladys (Lamb) Holst. On August 25, 1959, she was united in marriage to E. Kenneth Jones. The couple later divorced. On June 3, 1989 she was united in marriage to Fred D. Eastland. He preceded her in death in 2012. Ruth worked at Sylvania in Burlington and later she went to the Burlington Beauty Academy, graduating in 1971. She worked in various shops until opening her own shop in her home. Ruth loved cooking and that led her to working at the Odessa Grill in rural Wapello. She also enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, music, dancing, happy hour, traveling and wintering in Arizona and Mexico. Most of all, she loved being with her family, friends and her loving dog, Abby.
Ruth will be deeply missed by daughters, Sheila (Monte) Eversmeyer and Shelly (Darren) Holsteen, all of Wapello; step-sons, Doug (Celina) Eastland of Waco, Texas, and Brian (Kori) Eastland of Shreveport, Louisiana; 10 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Joan Hogberg of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Delores Kester, Barbara Lant; sons Kirk and Mark Jones and grandson, Zachary Jones.
