WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa--Freddie Darwin Eastland, 77, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
No visitation or service will be held. Cremation rites were facilitated by the Family Care Services Life Transition and Cremation Center in Muscatine, Iowa.
Freddie was born on February 17, 1935, in Emhouse, Texas, the son of Lee Mahone and Winnie Tinkle Eastland. He had married Sylvia Jean Addison and they later divorced. In 1989, he was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Holst Jones.
He worked as a civil engineer for ABB Lums retiring in 1999 after 20 years of service.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Ruth Ann Eastland of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two sons, Doug Eastland of Waco, Texas, and Brian Eastland and wife, Kori, of Shreveport, Louisiana; two step-sons, Kirk Jones of Wapello, and Mark Jones and wife, Monica, of Creede, Colorado; two step-daughters, Sheila Eversmeyer and husband, Monte, and Shelly Holsteen and husband, Darren, all of Wapello; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Eastland and wife, Betty, of Corsicana, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Wanda Barrett, Jeanine Pope and Nancy Robinson.
