Peggy Lou Collins, 66 of Burlington, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2022 at her home surrounded by family.
Born January 14, 1956 in Burlington she was the daughter of Lewis and Margaret Schmidt Thomas.
Peggy attended Perkins Elementary School and Horace Mann Junior High School. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1974 and attended Southeastern Community College.
On January 5, 1980 Peggy married Mark P. Collins in Burlington.
Peggy was a stay-at-home mom for seven years, she then worked at Sunnyside Elementary School as a paraprofessional for 10 years. For five years Peggy worked at Great River Medical Center in Registration. She worked at Southeastern Community College as the Welcome Center Manager for 16 years until her retirement in 2021.
Peggy was a member of West Hill United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School Director. Peggy was President of the Burlington High School Music Boosters and a member of the Athletic Boosters. She loved spending time with her two grandsons, traveling, baking, listening to Christian music on KLOVE, and watching Hallmark movies. Lucy, her Labrador mix rescue dog was her constant companion and she loved her very much.
Survivors include her husband, Mark; two daughters Kassie (Walt) Kirkling of Crown Point, IN and Heidi Collins of West Burlington; two grandsons Quincy Collins and Kash Kirkling; two foster brothers Raleigh (Nancy) Helmick of Burlington and Timothy (Becky) Helmick of Libertyville, IA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters Cyndie Smith and Debby Fisher.
Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
The memorial service for Peggy will be 11:00 am Thursday, December 29th at Lunning Chapel with Reverend Ephraim Twillie officiating. Inurnment will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, December 28th at Lunning Chapel.
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society in honor of Lucy.
