Obituary

Mary E. Rust, 88, of West Burlington, passed away peacefully at 1:30 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2021 at Great River Klein Center.
Born November 5, 1932 in Burlington she was the daughter of Henry W. and Martha E. (Babcock) Voigt. On August 5, 1951 she married Virgil K. Rust in Burlington. He died on March 10, 2017.
Mary graduated from Burlington High School and worked at Schramm’s for several years in the office. Mary Rust was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church.
After starting a family, she became a full-time homemaker. She enjoyed being outdoors, riding bikes, taking walks, and working in the garden. She loved to travel, family camping vacations and spending winters in Texas following her husband’s retirement.
Survivors include two daughters; Karen S. (David) Strawhacker and Peggy J. Rust both of West Burlington; two granddaughters, Kyla (Mick) Henderson of St. Louis, Missouri and Hayley Strawhacker of West Burlington; three great grandchildren, Wyatt, Olly and Remy; two brothers Ernest (Linda) Voigt and Robert (Deborah) Voigt; three nieces and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Laura Freedman.
The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Rust will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 16th at Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for West Burlington United Methodist Church.
Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
