Edwin Lee Weyls, 83, of Burlington, died at 4:00 AM Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at his home.
Born February 13, 1931, in Lafayette, IN, he was the son of Clarence A. and Grace Avis Livingston Weyls. On January 15, 1955, he married Betty M. Wethington in Lafayette, IN.
Ed worked in Civil Service for the U.S. Army at the Rock Island Arsenal.
He was a 1949 graduate of Pine Village High School in Lafayette and a 1953 graduate of Lafayette Business College.
He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean War from 1949 until 1953 in Iceland as a radio repairman.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #52, where he was a Boys State volunteer for over 25 years, the AMVETS, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Burlington Aerie #150, and the 40 and 8, He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Bears fan.
Survivors include wife, Betty; two daughters, Lora (Phil) Schneider and JoDee Rangel of Burlington; two sons, David (Lisa) Weyls of Burlington, and Tim Weyls of Burlington; 13 grandchildren, Sarah, Emily, Abby, Erin, Derek, T.J., Madisyn, Chloe, Ellie, Quinten, Tia, Brittny, and Ali; five great-grandchildren, Gabby, Dylan, Xander, Kevynn and Mason; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and three great grandchildren, Cadyn, Adalyn and Mikayla Cloke.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.
The celebration of life for Mr. Weyls will be from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM Saturday, February 22, 2014, at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Burlington Aerie #150 with full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers memorials have been established for his grandchildren's education and the Special Needs Foundation of Des Moines County.
