Alice Marie Hart, 87, of Burlington, died peacefully on March 25, 2021. Funeral services will be Friday, April 9th at 2:00 p.m. at West Hill United Methodist Church with the family receiving friends from 12:30-2:00 p.m. Pastor Tamara Wirt will officiate. Alice Myatt was born October 5, 1933 in Omaha, Nebraska to Leon and Louise Myatt. She lived most of her life in Burlington, graduating from Burlington High School and Burlington Community College. She was married to John “Bud” Hart for 20 years and later to Ron Rettig. Alice worked as an executive secretary for many years at Benner Tea, Lehigh Leopold Furniture and as a tax preparer for H&R Block. As a lifelong member of West Hill United Methodist Church, Alice cherished her church family and joyfully served as music director and choir member for more than 50 years along with other roles in the church. Her love of music and sharing it with others led her to perform in the Follies in her younger years and with the Silver Singers in recent years. She also loved playing the piano and was an active member and past president of PEO Chapter P.
Alice is survived by her three children, Lorna (Jeff) Naifeh of Charlotte, NC, Brad (Jade) Hart of Cedar Rapids, Jon (Peggy) Hart of Burlington; seven grandchildren (Zach, Ian and Noah Naifeh; Alison Wetmore and William Hart; Courtney Gustafson and Cole Hart), and 13 great grandkids; her younger brother Don (Venita) Myatt, five nephews and a niece, her dear friend, Ron Rettig, and her beloved puppy Sissy. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law Russell and Viola Myatt, and niece Gena Myatt, all with whom she looked forward to being reunited.
Alice’s kind heart made her many friends, several of whom she helped care for in their time of need. Her strong faith helped her and her family through the difficult times and was a great comfort to all of us as she walked toward Heaven. Her gentle ways and loving smile will be greatly missed.
Alice’s family would like to thank the Great River Oncology team, the staff at Sunnybrook Assisted Living, and the Great River Hospice caregivers for their devoted and compassionate care of Alice in her final journey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to West Hill United Methodist Church in Alice’s honor.
