Obituary

Dorothy M. "Breezy" Bliesener, 85, of Morning Sun, formerly of Burlington, died at 11:17 a.m., Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Morning Sun Care Center, where she resided. Born August 31, 1934 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Rudolph Henry and Helen Lillian (Russell) Bliesener. Dorothy received her Master's degree in social work from the University of Iowa. She worked as an administrator for the Department of Human Services for 26 years until her retirement in 1993. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ. She belonged to the National Association of Social Workers, was on the Red Cross Board and served as a volunteer, and was a long time YWCA member. Dorothy was an avid Iowa Hawkeye's fan. Survivors include two nephews, Richard (Kay) Bliesener and Robert Bliesener both of Burlington; two nieces, Linda (Dennis) Smith of Walcott, IA and Robin Miller of Burlington; and numerous great, and great-great nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and two nephews. Family will receive friends 3:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 17th at Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. According to Dorothy's wishes, cremation will be entrusted to Lunning Chapel after the visitation. A memorial has been established for Morning Sun Care Center Activity Fund.
