Jack Johnson Washington, 80, died Monday, August 24, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Born August 22, 1940 in Peoria, Illinois he was the son of Robert Washington and Marie Alice Johnson Washington. He was raised in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School. He married Hannelore Lange on December 20, 1967 in Hanau, Germany.
Jack was an Army veteran. He served as a police officer for the City of Chicago, Illinois for 15 years and then worked for the US Post Office in Chicago for 33 years until his retirement.
Jack is survived by his wife Hannelore Washington of Burlington; his four children, Rene’ (Linda) Gunther of Chicago, Illinois and Desiree’, Semone’ and Geronimo Washington all of Iowa City, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jasmine, Jesse, Je'Ron, Sydney, Dakota and Daxton; three great grandchildren, Tatum, Mya and Ava; brother Robert Washington of Germany and two nieces Pamela and Stefanie both of Europe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Mary Alice Wynne.
The funeral service for Jack will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 4th at Lunning Chapel. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services. The family requests all to follow COVID-19 guidelines and practice social distancing and wear face masks.
