James Allen “Jim” Doty, 83, of Burlington died Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at Great River Medical Center.
Born November 2, 1936 in Casey, Illinois he was the son of Thomas A. and Hazel L. (Moore) Doty. He married Sharon Schmitt on July 31, 1954.
Jim owned and operated Burlington Hydraulic until his retirement in 2013. Prior to his business he worked for the CB & Q Railroad.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed woodworking, crafting, yard work and was a huge animal lover.
He and his wife hosted many foreign exchange families throughout the years that they consider their children.
Survivors include his wife Sharon Doty of Burlington; four daughters, Teri Doty of Sand Springs, Oklahoma and Cathy Soenksen, Susan (Kevin) Siefken and Christine Moraniec all of Burlington; nine grandchildren; Ryan, Constance, Brooke, Tresha, Jennifer, Jessica, Mac, Kennedy and Josh; 23 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and one brother Ronald (Sallie) Doty of Kirkwood, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Colleen and one great grandson Timber.
A private graveside committal service will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Elizabeth Bell will officiate. Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time.
