Robert W. Woodside, 68, of Burlington died January 24, 2021 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born May 27, 1952 in Burlington, Iowa he was the son of John Robert and Janace (Paxson) Woodside. He married Wendy McClellan on October 11, 1971 and together they celebrated almost 50 years of marriage.
Robert served in the US Army. He then worked for 28 years for Burlington Northern Railroad, eight of which he spent in Alliance, Nebraska as pit foreman. He continued on to work for another two years for Iowa Interstate Railroad in Iowa City.
He was a member of Parkside First Baptist Church.
He loved camping and spending time with family at the cabin he was raised in on the Iowa River. He enjoyed reading fantasy and sci-fi books. He rode to Sturgis twice and also participated in Ragbrai. Most of all, he loved his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Wendy Woodside of Burlington; two daughters Stacie Lynn Woodside and fiancé Nick Lewis of Wellman, Iowa and K.C. Woodside of Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren, Hayden, Dylan, Avery, Noah, Whitney and Austin; three great grandchildren, Rashad, Raheem and RayVaughn and one brother Warren Woodside and one sister Cindy Woodside.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one great granddaughter Wynleigh.
The memorial funeral service for Mr. Woodside will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 3rd at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Elizabeth Bell will officiate. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Inurnment will follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A celebration of life will follow the services at the Burlington Elk’s Lodge.
A memorial has been established. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
