Obituary
Richard L. Chatfield of Elkhart, IN, a good and faithful servant was taken to meet his Creator on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at his home.
He was born to Alden Browning Chatfield and Elva Mae Dresser Chatfield in Keokuk, IA on March 6, 1935.
He married Linda K. Manley on November 7, 1968. Surviving children include daughter, Sherrie (Vince) Urban of Troy, IL, son, Richard (Janice) Chatfield of Bee Springs, KY, stepdaughter Jennifer (Scott) Hinman, with whom he lived in Elkhart, IN, and stepson Michael (Maureen) Gall of Colorado Springs, CO. Thirteen grandchildren share memories of a loving grandfather. They are Kaitlyn (Jon) Birdwell, Waukesha, WI, Matthew (Sally) Hinman, Washington, IL, Megan Hinman, Elkhart, IN; Brent (Sydney Lowinski) Gall, Bryan Gall, Cory Gall, all of Cedar Rapids, IA, Kelsie Gall, Oelwein, IA, Noah Gall, Iowa City, IA, Thomas Gall and Tristan Gall, Independence, IA; Mitchell Gall, Dallas, TX, Alex Gall and Vanessa Gall, Colorado Springs, CO; and nine great-grandchildren are left to cherish precious memory.
His brother Roger (Mary Sue) Chatfield, Montrose, IA, and sister Ruth Ann (Ted) Brown of Davenport, IA, sister-in-law Wendy Connors, and special friend, Joe Stone of Albuquerque, NM, also survive.
Preceding Dick in death are Linda, his wife of 45 years, his parents, stepson Jeffrey C. Gall, and infant great-grandson, Jake Paul Hinman.
Dick retired from Exide in Burlington, IA and relocated to Elkhart, IN from Fort Madison, IA. He worked in the automotive department at Walmart in Elkhart for more than ten years before retiring once again.
He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He took them geode hunting, gave driving lessons, and attended their academic and sporting events.
A celebration of Dick’s life will be held in June 2019 at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, IA.
