GALESBURG - Betty Ruth Cook, 86, Galesburg, died at 7:50 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.
She was born Oct. 4, 1932, in Biggsville, to William Leroy and Mary Opal Huff Lawyer. She married Warren Allison Cook on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, 1954, in Burlington, Iowa. He survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Kim Allison (and Jack) Norris of Galesburg and Katharine Ann (and Terry) Campbell of Abingdon; four sisters, Barbara (and Harold) Lindgren of Cypress, Texas, Beverley (and Bill) McGuffey of Ventura, California, Bonnie Lawyer of Monett, Missouri, and Bonita (and Kevin Young) Smith of Washburn, Missouri; her stepfather, James Shelton of Fort Madison, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Joan White of Burlington, Iowa; four grandchildren, Jill (and Rex Hudson) Norris, Christopher (and Emily) Norris, Tony (and Krista Line) Campbell, and Tyson Campbell; five great-grandchildren, Connor Campbell, Brianna Campbell, Jack Norris, Allison Norris and McKenna Hudson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Betty graduated from Biggsville High School in 1950. She was a secretary to engineers in Burlington for six years and office manager for Waller Construction Company in Galesburg for two years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galesburg. Betty started with tole painting in the early '70s and developed her skill to include oil painting and for many years focused on china painting. She was always very active and was game to participate in any sport but especially excelled and loved golfing. She was a 58-year cancer survivor and stated that her motivation was to raise her two girls.
Cremation will be accorded. Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel.
