Obituary

Mr. John Fainter, 71, of Burlington died at 6:43 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014, at his home. Born December 27, 1942, in Monmouth, Illinois, he was the son of Ralph and Genevieve Blomberg Fainter. On June 2, 1967, he married Hazel Mae Fisher in Burlington. Mr. Fainter was an Army veteran. He worked for 18 years at Gale Products and retired in 2004 after working 20 years at Aldi Bakery. Mr. Fainter enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cares and reading books. He was a Jack-of-All-Trades, loved to tell jokes and always had a story to tell. He was "Grandpa" to all the neighbor kids. He loved time spent with his tea cup poodle, Sophie. Survivors include his wife, Hazel Mae Fainter of Burlington, two sons, Randy (Shantel) Fainter of Texas and Brad (Sherri) Spicer of Indianapolis, Indiana; three daughters, Tammy Klein of Burlington, Marlena Switzer of West Burlington and Sandy (Ron) Harris of Fort Madison; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol (Dick) Huckabey, of Kirkwood, Illinois; one brother, Jerry Fainter of Oquawka, Illinois; four nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral service for Mr. Fainter will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 20th, at Lunning Chapel, with Mr. Earl Beal officiating. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service on Friday. A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society. According to Mr. Fainter's wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel and will be accorded following the funeral service.
