Obituary

Gertrude Marie Stevens, 101, of Burlington, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Oak View Care and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.
Born May 26, 1918 in Burlington, Iowa she was the daughter of John Christ and Dora (Miller) Mewes. She married Glenn Stevens on March 7, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri. He died August 11, 1971.
Gertrude worked as the office secretary for the Teamsters Union Local #218 for 20 years until her retirement on February 28, 1982.
She was a member of St. Luke United Church of Christ and Teamsters Local Union #218. She more recently attended Oakville Community Church.
She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, crafting, going out to eat with her family, listening to Big Band music and admiring classic cars.
Survivors include her two children; Dennis (Bonnie) Stevens and Linda (Tim) Anderson both of Burlington; five grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and three sisters.
The Celebration of Life for Mrs. Stevens will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 10th at Lunning Chapel. The Rev Jim Ruberg and Rev. Steven Parker will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Oakville Community Church.
