Obituary
Sherry Lynn Mitchell, 57, of West Burlington, died at 10:26 PM Thursday, June 27, 2019, at her home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with brain cancer (Glioblastoma).
Born January 16, 1962, in Macomb, IL, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Joyce Brown McPeak. On July 4, 1980, she married Dan Mitchell in Argyle State Park, Colchester, IL.
Sherry was a pre-school teacher for Small World Pre-School in Burlington for 12 years prior to working at Kohl’s for 7 years.
She was a member of West Burlington Christian Church. She enjoyed shopping, spending time with family, watching her favorite shows, and attending her children’s activities. She was an avid Hawkeyes and Cardinals fan. She loved her dogs, Karlee, Casey and Ruby. Sherry always put her family first and made sure they were happy. She would lend a helping hand to anyone, whether they were a neighbor, friend or stranger and was passionate about assisting through the Kohl’s Cares volunteer program.
Survivors include her husband, Dan Mitchell of West Burlington; two sons, Landon Mitchell of Burlington and Brett Mitchell of West Burlington; daughter, Kalee Mitchell of Burlington; father, Kenneth McPeak; three sisters: Pam, Tammy and Kim; one brother, Doug; and several honorary grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Mitchell will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home with Dale Warner officiating. Entombment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh-Thielen Crematory following the service.
Rather than sending flowers, a memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice House.
