Burlington native Walter V. Appel, 88, St. Petersburg, Fla., died there at 3:55 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, after a long illness. He was born Sept. 12, 1892, to Ftank Veit and Mary Salzgeber Appel. He married Anna Marie Poggemiller May 30, 1940. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, serving as state president in 1938-39; served during WWI and was a member of American Legion Post 52. United Commercial Travelers and was past secretary-treasurer of Cascade Boating Assn. and Cascade hunting and Fishing Club. Surviving: Wife and daughter, Lois J. Wolfe, Burlington.
