Thomas E. Hill, 51, of Knoxville, formerly of Burlington, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Effingham, Illinois.
Born June 2, 1953, in Burlington, he was the son of William E. and Mary E. Bohn Hill. In August 1974, he married Marjorie Lee Klein in Burlington, they later divorced.
Mr. Hill began active duty in the Army in March 1976 with assignment to 39th Field Artillery at Schweinfurt, Germany, followed by assignment to 3rd Infantry Division Artillery in Kitzingen, Germany. After his service in Germany, he was assigned to Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma, where he was promoted to captain, serving there until March 1981, when he left active duty and returned to Burlington. He worked at Klein Manufacturing until 1988 while remaining on active duty with the Army Reserves Engineering Battalion at Fairfield from 1981 to 1984, then inactive Reserves until about March of 1986, gaining the rank of Major. He was a truck driver for Prime Trucking.
He was a 1971 graduate of Burlington High School and a 1975 graduate of the University of Iowa, where he received his Army ROTC scholarship and was a member of Pershing Rifles Drill Squad. He received officer training after graduation. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. He enjoyed music, camping, computers, electronics, gadgets,was a Iowa Hawkeye fan and a member of the Iowa Hawkeye Alumni Association. He also enjoyed skiing in Germany and was a member of Burlington Skiowans Club. He loved dogs.
Survivors include one sister, Martha Daggett of Knoxville; one niece; one nephew; and special friend, Elise Keith of Sedalia, Missouri.
