Russell C. Hartman, 77, of 522 Dunham, died Monday, Sept. 25, iin Memorial hospital. He was born Aug. 19, 1895, in Burlington, the son of Carl and Clara Dankwardt Hartman, Oct. 21, 1923, at Oskaloosa, Ia., he married Ethel l. McAfee.Mr. Hartman was owner-operator of the Hartman Insurance Agency for the past 35 years. He was an active member of the Burlington Area Council of Churches, and a member of First Christian church. Mr. Hartman attended Knox College at Galesburg, Ill., and graduated from William Penn College, Oskaloosa. He taught school in Oskaloosa for two years and was high school principal for 13 years. He was former board member of William Penn college, the 50-Year-Club at Know college, and was Iowa chairman of War Orphans during World War i, a conflict in which he served. Surviving: The wife; one daughter, Mary L. Hartman, Burlington; nieces and nephews. Funeral; 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sheagren Funeral Home, Rev. John Vickers; Aspen Grove cemetery. A memorial has been established to First Christian church.
