Obituary

At 2:30 yesterday afternoon, Robert Cameron, of this city, died at the Iowa Hospital for the Insane at Mt. Pleasant, whither he went in consequence of failing physical and mental health, a few months ago. The deceased was the son of James Cameron, was born in Union township in 1839 and since about the year 1867 had made his home in the city. He was for several years engaged with T.W. Barhydt & Co., in the wholesale and retail boot and shoe business; engaged in business in Ottumwa for a short time; returning to Burlington, he established a grocery store on West Hill and later he conducted a telephone express and delivery business with stables on North Main street, At one time, he was prominent in the Horse Breeders' association of this county, and was always an active promoter of the Des Moines County Agricultural society fairs, He enjoyed in a high degree the confidence and esteem of all who knew him in social or business affairs. Mr. Cameron was married to Miss Cora Pierson, daughter of Professor Johnson Pierson, now of Omaha. Four children all living, were born to them as follows:Misses Alma, Martha and Lelia Cameron, and one son, Carl Cameron. He has two brothers living, Henry D. and Edward and one sister, Mrs. Jacob Leffler. The remains were brought to this city last night and announcement of the funeral arrangements will be made to-morrow.
