Obituary

Martin S. Brockway, 80, of 122 Summer St., West Burlington, died at 12:27 am Wednesday, June 26, 1996, at Burlington Medical Center.
Born Jan. 26, 1916, in Denmark, he was the son of Charles and Mae Mary Conley Brockway. He married Matilda “Tillie” Rose Link on June 20, 1939, in West Burlington.
Mr. Brockway was a Navy Seabee veteran who served in the Pacific during WWII. He owned and operated K&D Co., Inc. in Burlington, Central Air Supply, Inc. In Des Moines and Brockway Co. Inc. in Burlington. He was a local construction business owner for 40 years and received industry-wide recognition for his innovative commercial and industrial heating, air conditioning, and ventilation designs.
He was an avid hunter, fishing expert, and conservationist. He was a past member, board director, and/or club officer with the following Burlington Organizations: Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Salvation Army, Boy Scouts of America, YMCA, Crystal Lake Club, Carthage Lake Club, Izaak Walton, Elks, Eagles, VFW, American Legion, Ducks Unlimited, Knights of Columbus(4th degree), Sheetmetal and Airconditioning National Association, American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Airconditioning Engineers, Mechanical Contractors of America, Illowa Sheetmetal Association, Burlington Builders Association and Sheetmetal Local 91 Apprenticeship Committee.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Terry M. Brockway of Illinois, James M. Brockway and Mark J. Brockway, both of Burlington; one daughter, Karen B. Drish of West Burlington; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine Huffman of West Burlington and Harriett Jennings of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call after 8 am Friday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm with a Christian wake service at 7 pm.
The funeral for Mr. Brockway will be 10:30 am Saturday at St. Mary’s Church in West Burlington, with the Rev. John Sterling officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 10102.
