Loretta Carol Bliss, age 77, passed away at 5:55 a.m. September 29, 2012, surrounded by her family at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa. Loretta was born December 19, 1934 to Otis F. and Helen I. Miller Underwood. On October 13, 1953 she and Donald Bliss were married in Mountain View, Alaska. She attended Burlington schools. She worked for Midwest Biscuit and Iowa Industries, which then became Champion Spark Plug, retiring in July of 1991. She was of the Protestant faith. She enjoyed sewing, ceramics and canning. Her greatest joy was her family and friends and baking cookies for everyone. Loretta is survived by her husband Donald; two sons, Steven (Linda) Bliss and Michael Bliss, both of Burlington; four grandchildren, Dusty of Texas, Denny (Alison) of Indiana, Justin of Burlington, and Sara Jo of North Carolina; two great grandsons, Matthew and Andrew of Indiana; two brothers, Gerald (LaVonne) Underwood of Cedar Rapids and George Underwood of Fort Madison; and four sisters, Martha (Bert) Morse and Sandra Parton all of Burlington, Ramona Underwood of Bloomfield, and Ruth (Bob) Fischer of New London. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; two brothers, Robert and Garry; and one sister, Phyllis. Friends may call from noon until 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 1st in Lunning Chapel, with the family receiving friends from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m.
The funeral service for Loretta will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 2nd in Lunning Chapel. Rev. Dean Graber and Rev. Brad Cranston will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established..
